Abstract

SCHNEIDER G., Renata. Rehabilitación, conservación y restauración de bienes culturales en comunidades marginadas. El caso de Santa María Acapulco, San Luís Potosí. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2010, vol.4, n.8, pp.213-250. ISSN 2007-8110.

The 1° of July, 2007 a beam struck the palm roof of the church of Our Lady of the Asuncion in the community xi'ói (pame) of Santa Maria Acapulco, San Luis Potosi. The church had already received another similar impact at the end of the XIX century that destroyed the niches and the central sculptures of the front. Due to the lack of a lightning rod and the own dryness of the environment of this region, the palm roof soon began to burn and collapsed in a little time. Shortly the interior of the temple burned completely: altarpieces, pulpit, benches, girders, "artesonado". In five hours and without firemen to help in time, the whole cultural patrimony building for which the building contained was lost irremediably. The household goods patrimony, in spite of the danger that this implied, was saved by 20 members of this community who forced the door of the sacristy, knocked down the main door and extracted all the objects they could. In the following lines all the activities and actions that were necessary to carry out in order to achieve the integral conservation of the household goods and building for destination of the burnt church are described; these actions are located in a very specific context of the discipline of conservation which the INAH faces when it carries out projects with rural communities marginated from the rest of the country, so that alternatives can be generated in order to intervene the community goods respectfully. At the same time it is necessary to take into account the considerations that the inhabitants of these communities have to express to federal, state and regional institutions with respect to what they wish to preserve, manage and spread out of their goods and traditional customs.
