Abstract

LICEAGA MENDOZA, Rodrigo Iván. Facebook's representations: Nomenclatures of life in the eyes of the law, friendship and death. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2014, vol.8, n.16, pp.137-174. ISSN 2007-8110.

As is the case for many other websites, Facebook has simply been defined as a "social network". However,, this platform reveals itself as the most popular and populated worldwide. In spite of this, however, neither the place that this platform occupies within the governmental and corporative space nor its own governmental dynamics and capacity to increasingly sanctions and acknowledges existence and reality - as a third person - seem to have been questioned. This paper intends, on the one hand, to assert the complexity of the platform and to neglect the assumption of its practice mainly as entertainment and communication and on the other, it intends to discuss and propose the basic elements that constitute its own governmental practice, highlighting the representation it employs over its users in relation with political representation in liberal democracies. In order to achieve these goals, it describes the life nomenclatures that Facebook employs in a juridical aspect, in friendship and in death.

Keywords : Representation; social networks; corporation; co-existence; rights; death.
