Abstract

VALLADARES, Liliana  and  OLIVE, León. What is traditional knowledge? Epistemological notes for interculture. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2015, vol.10, n.19, pp.61-101. ISSN 2007-8110.

In this text the notion of knowledge is confronted by focusing on the definition of traditional knowledge. Two different epistemological approaches (an objectivist perspective and one based on the practice perspective) that have emerged from research on knowledge management are discussed. A characterization of traditional knowledge in the critical context of Epistemologies of the South is suggested by highlighting its relevance for the design and development of public policies and regulatory and legal frameworks in intercultural education, innovation, intellectual protection and linguistic and cultural heritage protection.

Keywords : traditional knowledge; epistemological practices; epistemologies of the South; intellectual protection.
