The purpose of this article is to provide a series of considerations on the emergence and development of Cooperativa La Comunitaria, in Rivadavia, Buenos Aires, Argentina. La Comunitaria was born as a result of an inherited organizational structure of a collective artistic experience -Grupo de Teatro Comunitario de Rivadavia-, which exceeded the artistic activity by participating actively with the population and becoming a new social actor capable of political dispute in the local area. Our interest is to reconstruct and analyze the actions taken by La Comunitaria in order to examine not only its political potential but also the transformations experienced in its internal dynamic and its relationship with the power sectors. We consider that this case study, which took place in a rural area and involved two hundred people from six different towns of the locality of Rivadavia, allows us to examine, from a complex point of view, the particularity of the phenomenon in order to enrich other lines of discussion about community theatre which have not been thoroughly explored, such as the relationship they build with the different branches of government and the diverse sectors of local power.
