Abstract

MANZANELLI, Macarena Del Pilar. Territorializing memories and identity-territorial claims. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2018, vol.13, n.25, pp.214-234. ISSN 2007-8110.  https://doi.org/10.28965/2018-25-08.

This paper strives to highlight the notions of temporality that intervene in collective memories arising from territorializing-collective activities and practices that lead towards the formulation of the identity policies of members of two communities of the Diaguita People-Nation in Tucumán (Choromoro Valley, Argentina) within the context of the conflicts and struggles for their territorial rights. Among the provocative research questions that inspire this work are: What do memories evoke? Do they contain an alternative temporality to that of the official history of the “state as a nation” (Briones, 2005)? Do they signify notions of time that allow the questioning of those of a hegemonic order?.

Keywords : collective memories; identity policies; Territorial conflicts, Indigenous peoples; Diaguita.
