Abstract

TOME PINO, Carmen María  and  PEREZ ALVAREZ, Luis. The institutional recognition of academic work in mexico: reflections from The Theory of The imaginary institution of society. Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2021, vol.16, n.31, 00004.  Epub Apr 21, 2023. ISSN 2007-8110.

This article aims to theoretically discuss the institutional recognition of academic work from Cornelius Castoriadis’s Theory of the Imaginary Institution of Society, taking as a point of reference the case of the National System of Researchers (SNI) in Mexico. During its development, the relevance and need for critical reflection about the institutional mechanisms for the recognition of work is first debated, landing them in the case of the SNI recognition practices. Next, the relevance of the Theory of the Imaginary Institution of Society exposed by Castoriadis is discussed to understand the most varied and complex meanings that are manifested through recognizing practices, as well as through the subjectivities of the evaluated academics. Finally, according to the literature, possible access routes are proposed for the study of the social imaginary meanings (SIS) instituted and instituting in the institutional recognition of academic work, highlighting the questioning and creative role that subjectivity plays in front of institutions.
