Abstract

The objective of the present work was the morphometric characterization of the fruit and seed in four species of the genus Vanilla for Vanilla planifolia G. Jackson, Vanilla insignis Ames, Vanilla Inodora Schiede and Vanilla pompona Schiede, within V. planifolia G. Jackson is considered eight clones. The biological material used was taken from the genebank of vainilla from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, Mexico. For the analysis of results were used for correlation analysis, principal component analysis and clustering. The morphometric characters more discriminants of seed were: Perimeter, Feret diameter, radial axis, and the length of the hilum and compaction index (first principal component). Placental zone area of the fruit, thickness of the fruit, and relationship length/thickness of the fruit (second principal component). Upper Corner of seed, relationship area of placental zone/area of the mesocarp of the fruit, relationship angle lower/upper corner of seed (third principal component). The three main components accumulated 80 % of the total variation. The separation between the different species of vanilla and clones in four well-defined groups, indicating that there is variability morphometries in fruit and seed between species and clones that can be useful for discrimination and differentiation of the germplasm of vanilla.
