Abstract
CARNERO-AVILES, Leslie; CERNA-CHAVEZ, Ernesto and OCHOA-FUENTES, Yisa M.. Morphometric analysis of biotypes A, B, and Q of Bemisia tabaci from the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. Ecosistemas y recur. agropecuarios [online]. 2021, vol.8, n.3, e2753. Epub Oct 31, 2022. ISSN 2007-901X. https://doi.org/10.19136/era.a8n3.2753.
The whitefly Bemisia tabaci is a pest of great importance for agriculture, its improper handling in vegetables can cause damage to the quality of the fruits and reduce production by more than 50%, so the correct identification of the species is a key tool for its control. In order to relate the morphological variations with the biotypes of B. tabaci, samples were collected from populations from the municipalities of Mocorito, Elota and Culiacan in the State of Sinaloa, Mexico, these were identified through the gene (mtCO1) as biotypes A, B and Q, respectively. The statistical analysis of the data obtained from the morphometric study showed greater length and width in all instars of biotype B, followed by biotype A with significant statistical differences of the 2nd, 3rd instar and pseudopupa between the biotypes, while biotype Q exhibited the smaller dimensions.
