In the Colombian Pacific coast, the enslavement process and the African diaspora have been documented mainly in the mining regions; However, mining was not the only productive activity, the Afro-descendant communities that populated the Valle del Cauca closest to the Andean geography worked the cultivation of sugar cane. Derived from both productive skills and their geographical location, each community has developed different nuances in their cultural identity. The objective of our study is to differentiate the social, cultural and identity of the Afro-descendant communities that inhabit the agricultural small lands of Valle del Cauca with the mining populations of the Colombian Pacific coast. We rely on participant observation and documentary review, this obtained obtaining an ethnographic approach study. The main findings lie in the diversity of knowledge and resistance strategies that have allowed the survival of the Afro-descendant communities of the small lands of the Valle del Cauca, Cauca and Nariño, which have strengthened their identity.
