VEGA GODINEZ, Alejandro. Trust Building: Light and Shadow of Police-Population Interactions in Mexico City. Iztapalapa. Rev. cienc. soc. humanid. [online]. 2021, vol.42, n.90, pp.49-79. Epub Jan 31, 2021. ISSN 2007-9176. https://doi.org/10.28928/ri/902021/atc2/vegagodineza.
The article examines the proximity police-population relations in Mexico City. There is a wide literature that identifies mistrust as the articulating axis of these relationships. But how accurate is it consider still these relationships as antagonistic and extremely suspicious? Theoretically this is linked to the question: how is trust built? The research was carried out in 13 quadrants, located in 7 colonies and is developed through qualitative methods of observation, analysis of the interactions of a WhatsApp discussion group and indepth interviews. The results show differentiated effects. On the one hand, the corruption and mutual mistrust identified by the literature are verified. Although on the other, there are also incipient mechanisms for cooperation and the beginning of trust-building developed through the mediation of brokers and virtual means of communication.
