Abstract

MARTINEZ-MONTEJANO, R.C. et al. Permeability Fluid Test Prototype for Dental Sealers Using Digital Image Processing in LabVIEW. RIIIT. Rev. int. investig. innov. tecnol. [online]. 2019, vol.7, n.41, pp.62-74.  Epub Feb 05, 2021. ISSN 2007-9753.

An endodontic treatment must be capable of preventing bacterial growth and fluid filtration. To prove the effectiveness of a dental sealer, it must pass through several tests, among them the fluid penetration method. This test shows the hermetic capability of dental cement. This paper presents the construction of a prototype for such test to measure the quantitative evaluation of microleakage based on Pashley test. The system consists of an oxygen cylinder connected to a pressurized system and linked to a conditioning box. Inside the box, there is a USB camera with LED light, one entry of the box holds attachments for a syringe and a tooth with cement, is placed at the box output. A bubble air is introduced to the system by the syringe and the USB camera records the bubble displacement, and the microleakage calculation is made using digital image processing on LabVIEW. The prototype is tested with three different types of dental cement and can be concluded its correct performance for evaluating microleakage.
