Abstract

PAREDES-CERVANTES, Samantha A.; BARAHONA-PEREZ, Luis Felipe; BARROSO-TANOIRA, Francisco G.  and  PONCE-MARBAN, Donny V.. Biofuels and their potential in the mexican energy market. Rev. econ. [online]. 2020, vol.37, n.94, pp.35-56.  Epub Oct 07, 2020. ISSN 2395-8715.  https://doi.org/10.33937/reveco.2020.128.

As biofuels could represent a satisfactory renewable energy option for México, the objective of this research was to explore and describe the current status of biofuel policies in this country, as well as suggesting strategies for increasing their potential in the energy market. The method was based on a review of different studies and interviews to important producers and expert academics. Results indicate that biogas is the biofuel with the highest development potential, followed by bioethanol, but chances for biodiesel are reduced mainly because of insufficient feedstock production capacity. A fiscal incentives policy is required to maintain producers into the market.
