Abstract

HUERTA-ESTEVEZ, Antonio  and  ANDRADE-ESTRADA, Myrna Guadalupe. Corporate social responsibility in the mission, vision and values of the main companies in Mexico. Estud. soc. Rev. aliment. contemp. desarro. reg. [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.57, e211109.  Epub Mar 21, 2022. ISSN 2395-9169.  https://doi.org/10.24836/es.v31i57.1109.

Objective:

Analyze the presence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) within the mission, vision and values in the 100 most important companies in Mexico according to the 2019 ranking of Expansion magazine.

Methodology:

For the exploration of these companies, a content analysis was carried out, which is a methodology that allows the interpretation of reality, through categories extracted from written text referring to specific characteristics of a topic to be investigated in a study group.

Results:

The presence of CSR in the 3 elements of the strategic planning of companies is very low, there is only the presence of the dimensions on 81 occasions, with the largest presence being society or community with 20 mentions followed by social responsibility with 14 mentions and environment and sustainable with 11 mentions each.

Limitations:

The updating of the companies' websites is not always in a timely manner, in addition to the fact that the concepts of strategic planning are not expressed in said sites, they do not necessarily refer to the non-existence of these in the companies. It should be considered that some other important dimension could be indirectly omitted.

Conclusions:

Despite the importance, that CSR currently has in strategic planning, in less than half of the companies, they contemplate it in their mission, vision and values; this would indicate little interest in CSR on the part of the companies and even with some absence in terms of a culture of social responsibility. CSR in mission, vision and values does not occur jointly, only 3 of the companies analyzed on their websites consider any of the dimensions in the 3 aspects mentioned and 9 consider it in the mission and vision.

Keywords : regional development; corporate social responsibility; Mexican companies; strategic planning; content analysis; mission; vision and values.
