Abstract

MARTINEZ-ESPINOSA, Alejandro  and  LOZANO-KEYMOLEN, Daniel. Healthy traditional diet of México in the Sustainable Development Goals context. Estud. soc. Rev. aliment. contemp. desarro. reg. [online]. 2023, vol.33, n.61, e231293.  Epub Aug 28, 2023. ISSN 2395-9169.  https://doi.org/10.24836/es.v33i61.1293.

Objective:

Explore the way in which food has been integrated into the international agenda to promote development, and from this, identify the possibilities of applying the definition of the criteria of healthy diets in Mexico.

Approach:

Need to explore the opportunities to specify the guiding principles of healthy diets, which are not only based on institutional assumptions, but have been developed based on the contributions of different specialists. It starts from a documentary review guided by a heuristic and hermeneutic approach.

Approach method:

We position ourselves against the conceptual efforts to specify dietary guidelines that contribute to the wellbeing of the population. Specifically, we seek to answer what opportunities and difficulties characterize the Mexican context, to implement a healthy diet, according to international criteria?

Conclusions:

Traditional healthy diets in Mexico are as varied as the regions from which they originate. Recovering and strengthening the connection between traditional diets and the context from which they arise also represents an opportunity to promote food sovereignty.

Keywords : contemporary food, food customs; diet, sustainable development; food sovereignty; malnutrition; traditional knowledge.
