The concern to solve the problem of hunger has brought to the scene the concepts of food security and sovereignty, originated in different contexts. Being the object of this writing the documentary revision and analysis of these two concepts, to establish their differences, as well as to the reflection on the importance of the small production to solve the problem of hunger. It is concluded that peasant production subscribes to a food sovereignty from a cultural and economic support that translates into a logic of social reproduction from the commonality, which can contribute to see a different form of development than that imposed by the hegemonic system.
Keywords : food safety; food sovereignty; hungry; small production; communality.
