Abstract

SALINERO RATES, Stella. Compulsory Position: Experience of Violences in Gynecological Care in Chile. Rev. interdiscip. estud. género Col. Méx. [online]. 2024, vol.10, e1076.  Epub Apr 05, 2024. ISSN 2395-9185.  https://doi.org/10.24201/reg.v10i1.1076.

This study is to analyzes the perceptions of women who have experienced gynecological violence about how they are viewed by health professionals in Chile. I led focus groups in some of the main cities of the country. The results show that they share the feeling of being exposed and vulnerable, constrained and questioned in their decisions about their health and sexuality. Through a thematic analysis, I propose that central theme runs through all the stories: the “obligatory position”. This position would enable the exercise of gynecological violence and would be manifested both in the physical position on the stretcher and in the subordinate position of women and the feminine in our society.

Keywords : gynecological violence; gender violence; hegemonic medical model; feminism.
