Abstract

MORALES-FUENTES, Gerardo A.  and  HAMUD-GASCA, Óscar S.. Unusual capsule endoscopic image of a “false parasite”. Endoscopia [online]. 2021, vol.33, n.2, pp.81-83.  Epub Feb 28, 2022. ISSN 2444-6483.  https://doi.org/10.24875/end.21000006.

A case of capsule endoscopy of a patient with a high suspicion of intestinal parasites is presented, with images obtained highly suggestive of the same diagnosis which was given by several specialists based only on them, however, the final conclusion is that it is quinoa seeds. In a search of similar images online or in the medical literature, it was not possible to find some as clear and conclusive as in this case, so they must be disclosed among specialists to avoid erroneous diagnoses of intestinal parasitosis and be taken into account for diet indications prior to capsule endoscopic study.

Keywords : Seed; Quinoa; Intestinal parasite; Capsule endoscopy; False parasite.
