Abstract

PEREZ BRAVO, Mauro. The physical and psychological health of immigrants in Mexico: the case of immigration detention. Derecho glob. Estud. sobre derecho justicia [online]. 2020, vol.6, n.16, pp.15-48.  Epub Jan 27, 2021. ISSN 2448-5136.  https://doi.org/10.32870/dgedj.v6i16.279.

The physical and psychological medical care of foreigners in irregular migration status who have been detained by the Mexican immigration authority, and who are housed in immigration stations or provisional stays, has certain deficiencies and difficulties for their effective performance. In the present work, we analyze some of these deficiencies, mainly at the material and legislative level, faced by migrants in detention. We focus on two main areas: physical medical care and psychological medical care. We find material and legal deficiencies in the exercise of the migration policy carried out by the National Institute of Migration, which does not have the right to adequate medical care for migrants, so we try to outline some lines of action so that they can assist the human rights of migrants in detention, in this case, the right to health.

Keywords : Migration; human rights; physical health; psychological health; immigration detention.
