Abstract

ARNALDI, Simone. ¿Qué tan suave debería ser la regulación nano? Identidades sociales y opiniones de los stakeholders italianos. Mundo nano [online]. 2014, vol.7, n.13, pp.6-27.  Epub June 11, 2021. ISSN 2448-5691.

After reviewing some major soft-regulatory initiatives in the nano-field and examining some of the most relevant factors explaining the growing role of soft-regulation in nanotechnology governance, the paper explores the mutual representations of Italian stakeholders in nanotechnology to show how considerations about the (perceived) identity, in terms of motivations, roles in the regulatory process and expected behaviour, of the social actors that are involved in nanotechnology development enter actors’ reasonings to justify the selection, support, or discard of different regulatory solutions and instruments, namely the alternative between soft regulation and mandatory rules.

Keywords : nanotechnology; stakeholder representations; social identities; soft regulation; Italy.
