Abstract

AINO, Vittoria. Naturalization of the concept “religion” and religious coloniality. The case of the nuntajɨykɨwi (popolucas of the Sierra) of Santa Rosa Loma Larga (Veracruz). Inter disciplina [online]. 2018, vol.6, n.16, pp.31-60.  Epub Feb 24, 2021. ISSN 2448-5705.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ceiich.24485705e.2018.16.65634.

The religious systems of the indigenous peoples of Mexico have undergone dynamics of invalidation, disqualification and religious coloniality, which have their roots in long-term processes and are expressed, in different ways, at the local and national levels. The case of the nuntajɨykɨwi of Santa Rosa Loma Larga (Veracruz) allows us to observe the links between the disarticulation and masking of the local religious system, the asymmetry of the interreligious community relations, the national legislation that regulates the Mexican religious field and the naturalization of the concept “religion”.

Keywords : religion; coloniality; indigenous peoples; popolucas of the Sierra.
