Abstract

HERNANDEZ ESPINOZA, Patricia Olga. Mortality Patterns and identity identifiers at the funerary architectural complex of La Noria Tamtoc, San Luis Potosí. An. antropol. [online]. 2019, vol.53, n.1, pp.33-44.  Epub Nov 30, 2019. ISSN 2448-6221.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iia.24486221e.2019.1.57794.

The analysis of interments from the burial area of the ancient pre-Hispanic city of Tamtoc, revealed not only the unusual burial pattern of this place but also the differences in the patterns of mortality and their relationship with cultural features present in some of the individuals. Variables such as age at death, sex, presence of corporal modifications, funerary trousseau and disposition of the burials in the sepulchral space were analyzed. The practice of modeling the skull shows non-local variations and there is only one case with dental decoration. These findings are discussed from the archaeological evidence and the role of this site as a regional guiding center.

Keywords : Huasteca; archaeology; burials; osteology; paleodemography.
