Abstract

ESPINOSA MARTINEZ, Edgar Iván. Education and citizenship. Civil catechisms in Nuevo León and Coahuila during the Porfiriato. Hist. mex. [online]. 2015, vol.64, n.4, pp.1541-1581. ISSN 2448-6531.

This article analyzes two civil catechisms published in Nuevo León and Coahuila during the 1880s and explains what motivated the writing and publication of the texts. The relevance of this approach becomes clear if it is remembered that, in this period, the question-response format had already been utilized for strategies that had been considered more analytic. This research thus sheds light on two state-level projects in northern Mexico, then considered to be strategic, which were aimed at educating children.

Keywords : Mexico; citizenship; childhood; 19th Century.
