Abstract

ALVAREZ ARMADA, Daniel. On Sociocritical Studies in China: A Terminological Issue. Estud. Asia Áfr. [online]. 2023, vol.58, n.3, pp.481-505.  Epub Oct 20, 2023. ISSN 2448-654X.  https://doi.org/10.24201/eaa.v58i3.2855.

Sociocriticism has recently become a cornerstone of cultural literary analysis. However, in contrast to this methodology’s growth in other cultural contexts, innovation is notably lacking in Chinese literary studies. Despite the relevance of the 1980s and 1990s publications, studies of Chinese literature from a sociocritical perspective have not developed further. This paper focuses on the main conceptual and terminological problems that appear to prevent the use and acceptance of this approach in China.

Keywords : sociocriticism; text sociology; Chinese context; Chinese literary theory; shehuixue piping.
