Abstract

RIVERA ROJO, Celso Rodrigo. Competitiveness of the Mexican coffee in international trade: a comparative analysis with Brazil, Colombia, and Peru (2000 - 2019). Anál. econ. [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.94, pp.181-199.  Epub Apr 08, 2022. ISSN 2448-6655.  https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/azc/dcsh/ae/2022v37n94/rivera.

This research carries out a comparative analysis of the competitiveness of Mexican coffee, green and roasted beans, in international trade compared to its main competitors in Latin America: Brazil, Colombia and Peru. For this, the export quotas and the Vollrath index were calculated for the period 2000-2019. The results indicate a loss of competitiveness of Mexican coffee for both cases over time, in contrast to the other countries that showed stable behavior. For this reason, it is recommended to implement actions in public policy to strengthen the productive capacities of coffee growers, the profitability obtained from their production and promote the export of the grain.
