Abstract

MURILLO VILLANUEVA, Brenda; CARBAJAL SUAREZ, Yolanda  and  ALMONTE, Leobardo de Jesús. Value Added in the Manufacturing Exports of NAFTA, 2005, 2010 and 2015. A subsector análisis. Anál. econ. [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.95, pp.69-88.  Epub Aug 01, 2022. ISSN 2448-6655.  https://doi.org/10.24275/uam/azc/dcsh/ae/2022v37n95/murillo.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the bilateral trade in manufactures between the countries of the NAFTA by disaggregating, in domestic and foreign, the value added contained in the exports of the 16 manufacturing sectors for the years 2005, 2010 and 2015. By means of a multiregional input-output model, the proportion of the value added that comes from the NAFTA partners is determined and the manufacturing trade balance in domestic value added is calculated. The results reveal that the Mexican manufacturing exports have the lowest domestic value added and that the exports from Mexico and Canada are highly dependent on U.S. and rest of the World inputs.

Keywords : manufacturing exports; value added; NAFTA; multiregional input-output.
