FUENTES CASTRO, Hugo Javier; ZAMUDIO CARRILLO, Andrés; SOTO ROMERO, Jorge Mario and MENDOZA GARCIA, Jorge Alberto. Determinantes de las ganancias de los vendedores ambulantes en México. El trimestre econ [online]. 2012, vol.79, n.315, pp.693-723. ISSN 2448-718X.
The objective of this study is to define and estimate the main determinants of the earnings of street vending owners/self-employed in Mexico. It was found that within street traders there are those who search in the activity an avenue for growth while there are others who take refuge in the job because of their "exclusion" from the formal sector. This study shows that the former have better economic performance that the later.
Additionally, this research indicates that the highest levels of earnings are obtained after 20 and before 23 years of experience in the job while their greatest growth is observed during the first 4 years of experience. Males obtain greater earnings than females, while those vendors having a leader also show higher earnings than those who operate independently. Finally, street sellers working in the interior of the country have better economic performance than those working in Mexico City.
