Abstract

Extending the results of Villarreal and Gomez (2009) this study must by objective analyze and explain what effects have horizontal and/or vertical integration in the permanence and profitability of the small and medium enterprises of the wood furniture sector of the State Capital of Durango. In order to achieve this objective a mixed methodologic approach was used, realising in first term, from the quantitative perspective, a diagnosis of integration looking for to model to the influence of this strategy in the permanence and the profitability. In the following stage the qualitative approach was used, for which interviews were carried out to depth in order to understand and to explain the results suggested by the quantitative analysis. The results of the study reflect a little use of integration as strategy in the selected sample. On the other hand, the qualitative process besides confirming the findings of the quantitative dimension, contributes additional explanations obtaining this way, a better understanding of the phenomenon.
