Recent years have seen an increasing interest upon researcher development. Recent studies showed that, researcher development is influenced by various elements, factors and mechanism. This is a reflective paper that is made after a review of the state of the art of the researcher's formation models and the profile that a researcher should have in the different areas of the knowledge. This study is based on a review of a recent researcher development models in the world and Mexican researcher profiles proposed by a Mexican researchers, used as basic concepts for developing an own conceptual model focused in the skills required by Mexican researchers as key element in public universities. The model considers the current situation of the researchers incentives created by the National System of Researchers in Mexico. The conceptual model proposed could be useful to improve the current programs of researcher development and increase the government and universities awareness about this matter.
