Abstract

CARDENAS TAPIA, Magali. Participation of Women investigators in Mexico. Investig. adm. [online]. 2015, vol.44, n.116. ISSN 2448-7678.

The objective of the research was to evaluate gender equity on research in Mexico, for which it was considered the total of researchers members from National Researchers System (NRS) actives in 2012, 2013 and 2015; the information was classified per gender, per knowledge area per NRS' level and per the most important public universities from the country. The results allowed us to conclude that women's participation in Mexico is lower than men's, in 2012 women's percentage was 33%, in 2013 there was an increase of two percentage points and by 2015 the percentages remained the same. From the seven knowledge areas established by CONACYT, in none of them women are majority; even though the highest concentration of women is in areas two, four and five; of the four levels in NRS women participate mainly in candidate level and level I; in levels II and III the participation decreases and notorious disproportion in level III of only 20% women can be observed; in the period analyzed it was identified an increase in women's participation of a percentage point in the four levels. The three public universities with a higher number of researchers are: UNAM with 40% of women's participation, UAM with 36% of women and IPN with 32%, lower percentage of women.
