Abstract:

Women were concerned with and occupied by knowledge about herbs and animals in food and for medicinal purposes, as well as the challenge to be accepted as students at the National School of Medicine in one of the areas of the healing sciences that were exercised empirically: the pharmaceutical. In the Nineteenth Century, women healers and herbalists were considered in two ways: as wise women who could cure, and as witches who cast spells.
