Abstract

RUIZ ANGUIANO, Ixchel Nacdul; DURAN MONCADA, Cristóbal Margarito  and  QUEZADA FIGUEROA, Alejandro. Historiography and cosmovision: The origin of man in the work of three seventeenth-century chroniclers. Let. hist. [online]. 2018, n.19, pp.11-46. ISSN 2448-8372.

This paper analizes the vision of the origin of man in the work of three seventeenth-century chroniclers: an indian, a Dominican monk and a major chronicler of the Indies. Each one of them combined, the biblical, Greek-Roman and Prehispanic tradition, resulting in peculiar explanations they aspired to get credibility with, which was eclipsed by the sixteenth-century chroniclers. The historiography of every one of them was aimed to get the American man into the Christian history, from its origin to its present, as well it meant his Christian salvation. The article contributes with more elements for analysis to know the construction of narrative and historiography of the seventeenth-century chroniclers.

Keywords : chroniclers; origin of man; cosmovision; myths; historiography; Bible. A la memoria del doctor Jorge Alberto Manrique.
