Abstract

CHAVEZ MANCILLA, Ángel. The creation of the Mexican-Russian Cultural Exchange Institute as a soviet instrument of the "ideological front". Let. hist. [online]. 2021, n.24, pp.97-117.  Epub Feb 21, 2022. ISSN 2448-8372.  https://doi.org/10.31836/lh.v0i24.7300.

The ideological dispute that emerged with the Cold War involved various mechanisms of political-ideological propaganda from both opposed sides. The Soviet Union decided to reinforce the "ideological front" dispute through the creation of institutions whose objective was to win supporters and sympathizers amongst intellectuals and artists, without entailing a militant commitment. In Mexico, this work was carried out through the Mexican-Russian Cultural Exchange Institute. This article offers an approximation to its foundation, its operation, and its political link with the Soviet government, as well as an account of the intellectuals involved in the Institute's first years.

Keywords : Cold War; socialism in Mexico; political propaganda; culture.
