Abstract

GONZALEZ ARCE, Jorge Alberto; MERCADO PENA, Claudia  and  DURAN ALFARO, Verónica. Vignettet letters. Zincografía [online]. 2022, vol.6, n.12, pp.5-26.  Epub Feb 06, 2023. ISSN 2448-8437.  https://doi.org/10.32870/zcr.v6i12.143.

Sequential art, comic or cartoon is a creative means of expression that consists of the arrangement of drawings or illustrations composed of images and words to tell a story or stage an idea. It is a series of juxtaposed illustrations that are intended to convey information and produce an aesthetic impression on the reader. These illustrations, modules or narrative units are known as vignettes. In them we can find, in addition to the images, other elements that contribute and give meaning to the story and that form a whole repertoire of significant units, among which are the drawn letters that fulfill different functions. In this writing we reflect on these significant capacities that can be found in the drawn letter or lettering of comics, as well as in the history and in the particularities of this trade; also on the potentialities and alternatives that a due observation, consideration and reflection of this communicational application of graphic texts in sequential or comic art can contribute to the work of the disciplines of design and graphic communication.

Keywords : Sequential art; comic; cartoon; vignette; lettering.
