Abstract

LOZANO CASTRO, Rebeca Isadora; VALLE CHAVARRIA, Lorena Gertrudis  and  BERUMEN RODRIGUEZ, Carlos Eric. Approximation of the functionalist imaginary from the discursive reading of archigraphy with socio visual hegemony in historical facades from 1914 to 1930. Zincografía [online]. 2022, vol.6, n.12, pp.27-50.  Epub Feb 06, 2023. ISSN 2448-8437.  https://doi.org/10.32870/zcr.v6i12.113.

This research puts on the table the concept of socio visual hegemony in archigraphy, understood as the constructed materiality of objects inscribed on historic facades, and its relationship with the functionalist imaginary. The discursive reading of the hegemonic sociovisual inscriptions suggests a systematic articulation of form and function as an alternative in that social reality. These objects were means of social practice and complex symbolic operators, where each one contained letters and forms with readability of discursive differential parameters, but also formed a conjugation in the multiplicity of the ideological discursive analysis of the functionalist imaginary related to progress. In this study, an intentional sample was selected consisting of 49 objects that historically correspond to the period between 1914 and 1930, in Tampico, during Bauhausian functionalism. Specific areas of inquiry were established in the review of historical documentation with ethnographic exploration, where the approximation between the concepts of socio visual hegemony and functionalist imaginary were associated with socio political dimensional aspects, civilizing ideas, and reflexive omissions on the physiognomy of the urban landscape. The interpretation and reinterpretation of the results brought out the hegemonic symbolic forms with functionalist social significance.

Keywords : socio visual hegemony; functionalist imaginary; archigraphy.
