Abstract

LUNA-GIJON, Gerardo. Classification of infographics and the visualization of informative content from the theory and practice of Information Design. Zincografía [online]. 2022, vol.6, n.12, pp.51-77.  Epub Feb 06, 2023. ISSN 2448-8437.  https://doi.org/10.32870/zcr.v6i12.155.

This article proposes, from the theory and practice of Information Design, a way to classify infographics, as well as to conceptualize the possibilities of visualizing the informative content that we find in it.

From a dialectical process, different proposals for classifying infographics are analyzed to propose an original typology and a strategy to understand the richness of information of the visual language that acts in the construction of informative content. In addition, the proposal of a taxonomy on infographics that is accessible to the design practitioner is made, as well as a method to select the types of information visualization.

It is a theoretical study, a look at infographics from Information Design, with the support of visual argumentation, recognizing the concept of information economy and considering visual and information literacy. It proposes a classification of infographics and a strategy to understand the types of visualizations for informative content. It is recognized that it is a subject with a diversity of nuances, that it should be explored in greater depth and that its scope needs to be verified in practice.
