Abstract

RODRIGUEZ BASSO, Silfredo. African legacy in Bahía Honda. Orality and memory in cultural identity. Cuicuilco. Rev. cienc. antropol. [online]. 2018, vol.25, n.71, pp.35-49. ISSN 2448-8488.

How do orality and collective memory, manifestations passed on by their African forebears, continue to be part of the cultural identity of Bahía Honda? Both of these expressions are approached and addressed so as to integrate them with others, such as religious; thus revealing the living African cultural heritage that remains part of the current population. It is located in a region suffering the effects of an identity crisis, among other reasons, due to the destruction of its historical heritage, which is specifically why orality and memory have become indispensable resources in the struggle to overcome this eventuality, through the preservation of cultural values. The ethnographic methods, along with unstructured, in-depth interviews, were the fundamental methods used to obtain the information used as the basis for this paper.

Keywords : African legacy; Bahía Honda; cultural identity; orality; collective memory.
