Abstract

PINA ALCANTARA, Saraí. Tourism and Mazateco shamanism, the social imbrications of two worlds: the case of Huautla de Jiménez, Oaxaca. Cuicuilco. Rev. cienc. antropol. [online]. 2019, vol.26, n.75, pp.43-66.  Epub July 03, 2020. ISSN 2448-8488.

Since the 1960s, two worlds that were thought to be without connection: tourism and shamanism, have become intertwined through information and movement flows such as in the case of Huautla de Jiménez -in the State of Oaxaca- and have resulted in neoshamanism and cultural appropriations by people with ‘New Age’ interests, in light of the second boom of psychedelic revival, thus impacting on the relationships linked with sacred goods.

Keywords : Tourism; neoshamanism; transnationalization; sacred; otherness.
