Abstract

SOSA SANCHEZ, Itzel Adriana. Sexuality and sexual experiences of men and women from two municipalities in Morelos. Cuicuilco. Rev. cienc. antropol. [online]. 2019, vol.26, n.76, pp.61-82.  Epub Oct 02, 2020. ISSN 2448-8488.

This article explores the role of different social inequalities regarding sexual experiences and the meanings of sexuality among the study population. Through in-depth, semi-structured individual interviews, sexual experiences and the nature of sexuality are investigated in a purposive sample of men and women residing in the state of Morelos. The results show the complex -and sometimes contradictory- coexistence of transitional discourses in relation to sexuality and to the heteronormative and highly generated sexual double morality that occurs in these areas. Similarly, the findings highlight the central role they play in building the meanings and experiences with regard to sexuality and the sexual experiences of the study population, which in many cases translates into different forms of sexual violence.

Keywords : Sexuality; gender; heteronormativity; sexual double standards; sexual violence.
