Abstract
FERNANDEZ PIEDRA, Diego; GALLEGO GRANERO, Enrique and HONTORIA ZAIDI, Patricia. Chemical submission in women and its social representations in Spanish mass media. Cuicuilco. Rev. cienc. antropol. [online]. 2023, vol.30, n.88, pp.241-266. Epub Apr 08, 2024. ISSN 2448-8488.
This article analyzes the problem of chemical submission and the treatment it has received by the Spanish media during the summer of 2022. A mixed investigation was carried out in which, based on an exhaustive bibliographic and documentary review, 10 interviews and 142 online questionnaires were carried out with women residing in Spain between the ages of 18 and 30. The purpose of this study was to analyze the social representations provided by the media on chemical submission and the possible social and health problems linked to a certain sector of the Spanish population. The results obtained showed how these representations, focused on showing how substances are to blame for the situation, exonerate the aggressor and blame the victim for not having carried out care practices that would have prevented the aggression.
