Abstract
ROJAS-GOMEZ, María Fernanda; ARDILA-TORRES, Luis Guillermo and JARAMILLO-BOTERO, Natalia. Most frequent ultrasound artifacts of B mode: Considerations for the proper interpretation in the practice of ultrasound applied to perioperative medical care. Anest. Méx. [online]. 2017, vol.29, n.3, pp.4-15. ISSN 2448-8771.
With the advent of the multiple medical applications of ultrasound, an adequate knowledge of this extraordinary technological tool is necessary; which requires an intense educational process that must be accompanied by a daily practice and the acquisition of new operational skills in the use of ultrasound equipment and in the optimal interpretation of the images. The standarization of physical properties of the ultrasound waves and the interaction of these with the tissues in order to facilitate the operation and the management of the equipment; sometimes generates the creation of images that do not correspond to the structures that are being evaluated and which may lead the operator in training to an inadequate interpretation of these images, so we will review the most frequent graphic errors, their cause, disadvantages, advantages and correction alternatives in order to increase the quality of tissue evaluation, but above all of the interpretation that the anesthesiologist must give in dynamic during the guide of procedures like the regional anesthesia or the vascular accesses to the ultrasonographic images to obtain its better benefit.
Keywords : Sound physics; ultrasound; echogenicity; interaction with tissues; attenuation; artifices.
