Abstract

Approximately 70% of surgical patients experience some degree of postoperative pain. The pain includes a greater morbidity and mortality, mainly due to respiratory and thromboembolic complications, prolonged hospital stay, and there is a deterioration in the quality of life. There are many causes that lead to inadequate treatment for pain, some of them are: Inadequate medication, not trained personal, insufficient communication between doctor, nurse and patient, lack of individualized treatments, delay in the onset of analgesia, inadequate methods in the administration of the drug and inappropriate drugs.
