Abstract

BELOKI, Nekane; REMIRO, Arantza; DARRETXE, Leire  and  GEZURAGA, Monike. Educational Free Time for Community Development. Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2022, vol.52, n.2, pp.357-375.  Epub May 02, 2022. ISSN 2448-878X.  https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2022.52.2.396.

The article collects the results of collaborative research carried out in a municipality of Vizcaya, with a long history of developing children's educational free time. By means of including children's voices and innovation, it developed a radio experience highlighting the work done in the municipality through educational free time, its actors, and its impact on the development of the community, from the voice of minors. The project is part of a coordinated investigation of four Spanish universities. Educators from the three entities that deal with free educational time in the municipality participated in its development. The process lasted one year, with different phases and moments, where the key is the leading role of minors. The results show that educational free time is a relevant engine for community development, improves coexistence and raised from inclusive and transformative keys, favors social cohesion together with egalitarian, equitable, and fair processes. Community radio also offers a form of expression and visibility for the minors in the community.

Keywords : participatory research; community radio; educational free time; community development; child participation.
