Abstract

VARGAS HERNANDEZ, José Leonel. The Intercultural University of Chiapas: Connection, Interculturality, and Community Development. Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2023, vol.53, n.3, pp.539-577.  Epub Oct 06, 2023. ISSN 2448-878X.  https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2023.53.3.566.

In this text, we analyze interculturality and community outreach practiced at the Intercultural University of Chiapas (UNICH). For this, the following research question is proposed: How are interculturality and community outreach led towards community development understood and practiced at UNICH? This analysis is carried out with the information obtained through 21 interviews (carried out with UNICH students and academics, as well as experts in intercultural higher education) and the documentary review of theses and articles written about this educational space. With this research it is deduced how interculturality and linkage are worked at UNICH and how community development is pursued, in addition, some of the main problems and impediments have been located to consolidate an interculturality where interrelations are more reciprocal, horizontal, and democratic.

Keywords : interculturality; intercultural education; community outreach; community development.
