Abstract

VARGAS EVARISTO, Susana. “It is important for a community to have its professionals.” Professionalization and Political Subjectivities among ISIA and Unixhidza Students. Rev. latinoam. estud. educ. [online]. 2023, vol.53, n.3, pp.613-642.  Epub Oct 06, 2023. ISSN 2448-878X.  https://doi.org/10.48102/rlee.2023.53.3.565.

The article aims to analyze the production of political subjectivities among young people who have professionalized in community higher education projects in Oaxaca, such as the Ayuuk Intercultural Higher Institute (ISIA) and the Santa María Yaviche University Center (UACO-Unixhidza). The analysis is carried out from an ethnographic and biographical perspective that recovers the subjectivities of the young people around their gender positions, the link with their community, and the meanings of studying at the higher/university level. The investigation (ongoing) has found that the Institutions of Community Intercultural Higher Education (ESIC) in Oaxaca show their own nuances and pedagogical practices according to the region in which they are located and provide young people with a binding professionalization alternative with their life worlds. In these professionalization processes, various criticisms arise from the students about gender relations, the link with the land, and political-community responsibilities.

Keywords : university; political subjectivities; community education; youth.
