Abstract

SALAS-GONZALEZ, Efraín et al. Pregnancy associated breast cancer. Gac. mex. oncol. [online]. 2020, vol.19, n.2, pp.63-69.  Epub Apr 23, 2021. ISSN 2565-005X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/j.gamo.19000249.

Currently, breast cancer associated with pregnancy (BCAP) can be appropriately diagnosed and treated, however it represents a real clinical challenge since its approach requires an experienced multidisciplinary team. The optimal treatment will depend on the gestational age and the morphological and biological characteristics of the disease. Both, radical and conservative surgery can be performed during the course of pregnancy, chemotherapy can be performed since the 14th week of pregnancy and during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, hormonal and biological therapies are totally contraindicated during pregnancy; radiotherapy, except in certain situations, is not a standard therapeutic option during pregnancy. Currently, it is a recommendation to evaluate and treat BCAP with a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary team composed of gynecologic oncologist and/or surgical oncologist, clinical oncologist, radiation oncologist, anesthesiologist, radiologist, pathologist, gynecologist and neonatologist.
