RODRIGUEZ-AGUIRRE, Manuel I. et al. Clinical features and treatment outcome of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and hyperleukocytosis. Gac. mex. oncol. [online]. 2021, vol.20, suppl.1, pp.23-27.  Epub Aug 22, 2022. ISSN 2565-005X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/j.gamo.21000031.

Introduction:

Hyperleukocytosis in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) has been associated with early morbidity and mortality.

Clinical Case:

We analyzed clinical data from 6 patients with ALL. We documented adverse events within the first 28 days in patients with a white blood cell (WBC) count ≥100 × 10(9)/l and reviewed their management. The most frequent biochemical alterations were hyperuricemia and hyperglycemia There were no severe complications or deaths.

Conclusions:

With improved management, including supportive care, early mortality in patients with ALL and hyperleukocytosis could be decreased remarkably.
