Abstract

Parathyroid carcinoma is an unusual pathology. It represents less than 1% of cases of primary hyperparathyroidism, with an average age of presentation at 45-59 years. The overall survival rate of one year is 78-85% and 49-70% at 5 and 10 years respectively. The case of a 33-year-old female patient is presented, she debuted with an episode of acute pancreatitis secondary to hypercalcemia, diagnosed with secondary hyperparathyroidism. Hemitiroidectomy was performed with left parathyroidectomy, parathyroid carcinoma with capsule invasion and neighboring tissues, 3.5 x 3 cm tumor. Literature review is performed.
