Abstract
CARBALLO-TORRES, Daniel et al. Neuroendocrine carcinoma of the cecal appendix, an incidental finding of an appendectomy. Case report. Gac. mex. oncol. [online]. 2021, vol.20, suppl.1, pp.45-50. Epub Aug 22, 2022. ISSN 2565-005X. https://doi.org/10.24875/j.gamo.20000130.
Neuroendocrine tumors are distributed throughout the digestive system, 19% are located in the cecal appendix. A 25-year-old female patient is presented, who after an appendectomy receives a biopsy report that reports infiltrating carcinoma to the serosa, moderately differentiated. It was decided to perform a right hemicolectomy because it was a tumor that was not registered due to pathological anatomy. Clinical-endoscopic follow-up even shows a very favorable evolution. Histopathological study is important, since even in the intraoperative period this disease is almost never suspected, which leads to late diagnosis and a worse prognosis.
