Abstract

TELLEZ-BANUELOS, Martha C. et al. Immunotherapy in prostate cancer: fundamentals and opportunities for its application in the clinic. Gac. mex. oncol. [online]. 2023, vol.22, n.3, pp.130-139.  Epub Sep 29, 2023. ISSN 2565-005X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/j.gamo.23000123.

Radiotherapy, androgen deprivation therapy, and chemotherapy are the mainstay of treatment for prostate cancer; however, resistance development significantly limits their efficacy. Chronic inflammation has a major role in the process of carcinogenesis, and there is a suppression of immune response in prostate cancer. Thereby, immunotherapy represents a promising therapeutic tool as it can potentiate the immune response against the tumor. Multiple clinical trials evaluate the efficacy and utility of immunotherapy in this cancer, which will be discussed in this review.
