Abstract

SOLIS SALAZAR, Sofía G.. The importance of feminist cinematographic theory in Mexico: a call for the analysis of gender and cinema. Debate fem. [online]. 2018, vol.55, pp.81-103.  Epub Nov 20, 2020. ISSN 2594-066X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cieg.01889478p.2018.55.04.

This article proposes a review of three aspects that have emerged in the current conditions of Mexican cinema in relation to gender: the invisibility of the work of female Mexican directors, the reproduction of gender stereotypes in comercial cinema and the transfiguration of the female Mexican spectator as a consumer of a more extensive cinema market. This study is a call for the consolidation of a Mexican feminist cinematographic theory to address these three problems.

Keywords : Feminist cinematographic theory; Women’s cinema; Gender stereotypes; Mexican cinema.
